Today's meeting

We had a chance to meet today and it was productive meeting. We talked about the commercial being made for the Academy, which should help get the word out for next year's registration. We had the opportunity to discuss some of the students that we had concerns about from the last meeting. It was mentioned that the students are motivated by the desire to go to Universal Studios in April. PO's were discussed. We talked about James progress on coordinating the collaborative project. James's conference trip for the HP grant during the summer was brought up. I am rewriting the mission and vision statements after Susan's contribution. The big promotion to get the word out about the Academy starts now. Some of the things being done to contribute to this cause are:

> First, we have made sure we wrote and got approved the Multimedia 1 and Multimedia 2 courses for UC A-G. We also articulated Multimedia 1 with AV college and got it approved as an Art Elective through the district. The Video Game Design course is pending approval. This was because we wanted to make the courses as attractive as possible to the students, Admin, and the counselors. This provides a means for at risk student populations to meet their Art requirements even though they may not have artistic talent. The computer software helps students access their inner artist.
> Second, we start the week of January 18th visiting all the freshman and sophomores homerooms to promote and pass out applications to the Academy.
> We start early advertisement by putting up posters all over the school. Posters show cross gender and ethnicity students working at career related hands on equipment.
> We put commercials on the FYI morning announcements that are broadcasts on our TV’s in all the teachers rooms promoting the Academy.
> We meet with the counselors and give them packets of information about our career pathways and we provide fliers and brochures to the counselors with information on the Academy and courses to pass out to students.
> We created a Game Club here at the school to help advertise the Video Game Class. We have a special female team that allows females to play without feeling intimated by the male population.
> We will be going to all six freshman course selection events at Knight High School and will show a commercial and talk about the Academy and the courses that are offered. We also was present, or someone from CTE will present, at all the other grade level course selection days.
>We showed the commercial and hand out fliers with information on the courses.
> We post student work in the Library and the Counselors office, and on the Internet so student, teachers, Admin, and counselors can see what the students do in our courses both genders are represented.
> We sign up for as many art competition as we can to advertise our courses as well and to make sure people understand what we do is just another art median.
> We go to places like College Information Night, Salute To Youth, and the Business Outlook conference promoting the Academy and showing information about what the students have accomplished.

  1. Is someone going to be present for freshman registration, too? Maybe James or Sherry should get this on the calendar so we are planting seeds for two years from now.
