The Chemistry Book
Several of you mentioned we need to reach students in a different way and stop relying on the traditional teacher-student dyad. I'm in favor of doing anything to get these kids to write and re-write. Two years ago, I developed a small website which has grown over time. Kids add material and I simply guide them on writing and re-writing. Students also add tons of questions and answers in a newer section to the site (forums). If you've never seen these kids in a different light then check out The Chemistry Book, specifically the forums where hundreds of kids have been interacting over the past two days. You'll need to have an account to see most of the exciting things they are working on.

I have seen this site and it is full of information. It really is worth checking out and what a great way to incorporate technology and engage the students.
ReplyDeleteI like this Layne, always have. I think we need an academy website that tells about the academy, has links to each of our classes (informational or to individual websites if they exist), has a link to the calendar, and anything else. I'm just not sure how to make it. Perhaps we could get together on that?
ReplyDeleteSounds great but maybe after our Academy gets a bit larger don't you think?
