Academy Meeting August 6th 2009 at 2:00

The meeting note for Thursday August 6th at 2:00 are Listed (Thanks Layne). We want to make sure that those of you who missed it are aware of what we covered. Feel free to add or ask about the notes, thank you.

Item 1: Review schedule for year

Clustering students into the classes was a challenge due to communication with guidance; couldn’t get “pure math classes” but most of the classes will be a majority of academy kids.

Item 2: Blog

Permissions need to be changed so the blog will allow multiple authors. Sherry will send out emails.

The blog will be a place for posting meeting notes and ideas for helping the students.

Item 3: Technology

· Tablet PCs and Netbooks

James showed the computers; discussion about ways to use the Tablet PCs included OneNote collaborative note taking.

Mobile PCs will be in two different carts kept in James’ room.

· Data projectors

They should arrive in the next few weeks.

· Printer

This printer is capable of printing poster size. Teachers should start thinking of ways to insert this into their lesson plans.

Item 4: Stipends

James and district personnel are receiving stipends. Core teachers also receive $1000 per teacher for materials to improve student scores.

To get items, make out a purchase order and give to James.

Note: Grant funding in “fall 2009” and has not arrived. Please do not rush out today and try to order something because the money is not in yet.

Item 5: Academy Goals

Academy serves at risk kids, three of the following criteria must be met:

· Economic disadvantage

· 2.2 GPA or below

· Irregular attendance

· Under achievement

· Low motivation

· Score bottom 40% CST

We have 69 kids, to continue funding then we must help kids achieve the following:

· 2.2 GPA or higher

· 80% attendance by end of sophomore year

· 90% credit attempts

Also, by senior year – the student must graduate.

Item 6: Field Trips

Please align lessons to include a field trip. We should start discussing some ideas.

Item 7: Google Calendar

James setup Google Calendar so we can put assignments onto the Calendar.
